Memories

London 2.0

Ok I AM OFFICIALLY UP TO DATE. YES I AM KILLING IT.

so we’ve been here technically 3 weeks, but this is the 2nd week of proper life – heavily into job searching, house hunting, mil recently departed for Portugal – and will be there for the next week.

Back story – she’s made friends with Portugal (the country) and has made a deal to work there and she gets unlimited Portugese tarts (as payment) to cook for hotels (Portugese men). No no, just joshing – she’s doing like 10 days of back to back events, she’s created menus and doing high teas for hotels and events around Portugal. Which is awesome – so she’a killing it in the whole “job” thang.

THIS IS WHAT MIL LOOKS LIKE WHEN SHES IN LISBON

FYI whoever has said to me “omg mil is in portugal how are you going to feed yourself? are you going to be ok on your own?” – SHAME ON YOU. i am fine. i will be fine. its like one week without miltang. the outlook is bleak – i had crumpets this morning, but i’m running low. what happens when you run low on crumpets? does someone bring you more crumpets?

i’m currently staying in a short term lease until my babi gurl gets back – few weeks in Dalston. its not a bad little area – theres “Dalston Kingsland” shopping centre close which is the equivalent of Northcote Plaza – maybe… even The Pines? not as good as Forest Hill Chase though – anyway theres a heap of absolute characters there – so thats a real fun thing to do. i did go for a little banter sesh to get a bag to fit all the shit that doesn’t fit in my bag – haggled him down fro 12 quid to 10. it was a win because thats $4 because everything is doubled here. EVERYTHING IS SO EXPENSIVE.

anyway, we went to alot of parks, watched the wimboldon, cheered people. ate watermelon in parks. we were real cute.

So my place in Dalston – not too bad apart from a few things. Obviously i’m getting out and about during the day – can’t stay at home all day.

why you ask?

because there are rats in my walls. and you can hear them squeek. and chat. and run and scamper and it is absolutely disgusting to listen to. so sleeping is a luxury which i’ve forgotten about. oh if that wasn’t bad enough – before mil left we shared my bed. it had a bit of a dip in the middle. first night was brutal. but after looking underneath the bed has decided to buckle under our Europe weight (not good for the self esteem) and figured out the bed is completely cooked. so now i’m on a mattress on the floor. with a broken bed frame in my room. living the dream guys.

i know these are the things i’ll look back on and laugh – and ill read back on this and remember that hilarious time i spent alone in London listening to rats while crying myself to sleep to drown the sound of all those disgusting sociable rats that are chewing through the walls to get to me and attack me.

This week has been rough, but its all an experience (yeah?) – moving to London is hard, no one really tells you how hard it actually is but theres a lot of things which have made it harder than expected. alot of catch 22’s. need a house, cant get a house without a job. cant get a job without a national insurance number, cant get a bank account without proof of address. honestly just eff off. gone are the simple days of a dollarmite account and living with your parents. But things are looking up, another short term lease coming up in london fields – which is welllllll nice. making so many good connections, will obviously update the crowd once its confirmed. we’ve noticed when a good thing happens its normally runover by a semi-trailor of 4 bad things, so we kind of just expect the worst now and when a good thing comes up its just a pleasant surprise.

We’ve met some pretty cool people, hitting a few job interviews, got a few things lined up – keeping positive, looks like the year of mil and dev is yet to actually launch, but im pretty sure we’re working in financial year dates. (right mil?)

OH and  i went to a country fair in brixton. probably around 15,000 people maybe even more. it was weird and fun.

over and out

the lone ranger.

ps: i am a people person, i am not needy and im not a sook because im currently alone. i am a PEOPLE PERSON.

Sarah

Hi! I’m Sarah. If you know me already, this page will be useless to you. As I mentioned in my first post I am Canadian, I love diving, Doctor Who, patio beers and now my Icelandic sweater shown in the photo above (it is unbelievably cozy). I graduated from Dalhousie in 2014 with a BA in International Development and Environmental sustainability and after working for 15 months at a wholesale company selling environmentally friendly alternatives to food service items I decided to go on an adventure. Traveling has always been on the back of my mind, and I knew if I didn’t go soon, it might not happen
