Memories

yas kween yas kween!

Ok guys

I know its been a few months. That’s because in that time – we lost about 3 houses, gained a few jobs, lost a bit of dignity and spent all our money.

Ill definitely give you the lowdown now!

Ok so from months July to September were an absolute rollercoaster. Peaks and troughs. HEAPS MORE troughs – but obviously has been incredibly rewarding, challenging, real shit, really good, horrible, all of the above.

Accomodation:

Ok looking back on this,  this is actally f***ed” sorry for the language but theres no other word to describe it.

While we were living the dream in a short term let in London fields (the absolute dream) mil was in portugal working, (killing / illing it) and I was house hunting, job hunting etc.

We met a few people to move in to a house with, they were awesome – had everything ready to go, deposit down, references done, move in date – finalised. all really happy with how life was going until the landlord just said. no. just. no. one of the bigger blows we’ve had.

i got my “can i speak to the manager” voice on and i yelled a lot at the agent. we exchanged words. i exchanged expletives. it was really exhilarating but exhausting and realising that we were STILL homeless was horrible. I’m telling you. 1 good thing happens – 4 bad things happen. it was BRUTAL. we were back at square one. its honestly like we could have moved from home YESTERDAY with a lot more money. but everyone says – you go through this, and this is what happens, and this is the reality of London.

But obviously that was in August, and its now October so you’d REALLY HOPE that we found a house. Which we have. It’s the dream home. Its in Bethnal green. LIVE EAST DIE YOUNG. – we got us some foreign gals to live with with funny accents. one from san fran, and one brit. well brit. they’re probably going to read this so ill keep the sass to a minimum but they’re good galz. we’ve been there a month, and no complaints.

Unlesssss you call not having a landlord a complaint OR realising that he hasn’t thread the phone line into the house so there’s just a bundle of cords in the neighbours yard and no internet available… (dw its coming in a week)

BUT on the upside he doesn’t want anything to do with us, which means he hasn’t sorted out bills. IE: we don’t pay bills. Which is strange and awesome and hilarious. We can’t even begin to explain to you how bizarre this is, but we’ve come to terms with this strange squalor living arrangement in this house and its doing alright.

EMPLOYMENT

Mil has been and gone to Portugal AND to India in this whole 3 months of me not writing on this. This is incredibly poor on my behalf. I apologise profusely. But just to quote from mil when she was in india “Ive only left the hotel room twice” means she had a STUNNING time over there, and cant wait to fly back (in 1st class) to india (only in a nice hotel) and work (get free shit)

Me? Oh yeah I’m employed now. Like I’m an absolute baller employee. I had a lot of interviews – a lot of recruiters  – a lot of rejection. Being “over qualified” is a very annoying reason for rejection, but i got that. For anyone that knows me I’m one for a “relaxed” atmosphere at work, which I’ve managed to find the best places to work where chocolate comes on tap and my inside voice can be in its nautral form (loud), even from me trying to bring in “trackie fridays” or RNB Tuesdays – my employment has been pretty awesome so far. Obviously because of my qualifications and my “hunger” to “progress” my “career”.

But after a lot of rejection, the week it turned around, it turned around REAL GOOD (REAL WELL?). I am now currently a digital designer for a company that owns about 8 restaurant chains around London. Look, I’m not Annie Mac’s replacement on BBC Radio (yet), but its really good. People are good, people like me, people get me, I’ve been set up real nice as well. New comps new phone new everything, which if anyone knows me – I LOVE new shit. Also the perks: vouchers for restaurants each month, free breakfast, free oranges. Honestly it’s the little things that REALLY count.

This is all sounding very upbeat, but I can confirm that there were a lot of lonely days where mil would be hanging off my jacket sobbing asking me when the next train to Heathrow was because its just all to much, and obviously going home to our parents with no rent, and none of this bullshit “life” stuff was the easy option out. But we know that we couldn’t give up (it wasn’t even pride, it was just wanting to be in London for that little bit longer)

For everyone that’s keeping tabs on our lurve life –and I’m NOT naming names – but mil has found herself a straight up stalker. Obviously this is a risky territory (because the internet is a dangerous place and people can find things and we aren’t ready to die just yet) but honestly, whoever does chat to mil – ask her about it, like how she constantly gets in situations which no one really knows how it happened and just rolls with it, yeah this is one of those times.

Ill just recap a few things while im here (going through picos and remembering what we did – as I srsly cant remember)

FEW THINGS THAT HAPPENED:

JESSIE CAME. and stayed with us. obviously ben came with her (they came together, he’s not her property) but she stayed with us for a week after he went to america. So everyone knows and claims that Jessie is the nicest person in the world. we do not disagree. but, we saw a side to jessie which we will hold on to for the rest of our lives.

Let me introduce – Snippy jess.

Oh my god. Don’t put children around snippy jess because she will throw them in front of a bus. Don’t serve jess shit Nandos – snippy jess will cut sick. It was amazing. It was like a hangover but worse, but better. I cant even begin to explain how good it was, but one day people might meet snippy jess. And that day will be as glorious for you as it was for us.

We went to the Notting Hill Carnival.

There were a lot of nangs, we did nangs. (FYI nangs are just laughing gas, parents please don’t be concerned about what we are doing over here. We’re sucking in gas from a balloon, and laughing.) We laughed for about 2 seconds and then stopped laughing when we realised we wasted 5pound on a rofl.– we drank a reasonable amount so that we were always in control (a lot) – we treid to get through crowds, it was super hard and busy but srsly fun.

Where we are at right this moment however is, mil is currently at the cake and bake show – shes been baking for the last month making some products to sell at this show.

No one will really understand the amount of sugar that has been consumed over the last few weeks – its only doing “wonders” for our “figure”.

I promise ill blog more – everything is much more settled, we’ve got a utensil separator now so we really feel like kweens.

Over and out –

Your Kweenz

Sarah

Hi! I’m Sarah. If you know me already, this page will be useless to you. As I mentioned in my first post I am Canadian, I love diving, Doctor Who, patio beers and now my Icelandic sweater shown in the photo above (it is unbelievably cozy). I graduated from Dalhousie in 2014 with a BA in International Development and Environmental sustainability and after working for 15 months at a wholesale company selling environmentally friendly alternatives to food service items I decided to go on an adventure. Traveling has always been on the back of my mind, and I knew if I didn’t go soon, it might not happen
